i remember being on ship, bored as hell, it's zero-dark-thirty, the red running lights glowing, and i was surfing the net. you couldn't look at porn - the powers that be thought it below military standards, and somehow i came upon prisonpenpals.com. found a parallel with my situation; a prisoner of sorts, stuck on a ship in the middle of the Pacific, at the whim of any testosterone laced NCO or officer, and i figured it'd be interesting. unfortunately, we landed in Kuwait before i could receive any letters. and we fought the war. and then it was over - not really - but we trekked back to Kuwait. and then came the letters.
lots of letters.
from women locked up for drugs, mostly. and a few for murder, assault, fraud. i never wrote them back - the whirlwind of returning home from a War consuming much of my time.
somehow i ran into the website today. think it was one of those wikipedia things. you know - one thing leads to another and another and another...
so i spent an hour scouring the ads. lots of weirdos, lots of tattooed and angry people, and all unlucky. but it coulda been me. or you. god knows i've come close. but i've been lucky. real lucky. the gods or War seemingly on my side. but what a fucked up existence. makes me rethink my views on prison and crime and all that stuff we "normal," people rarely think of. take a look. you might have a good laugh, you might make a friend. who knows...
